OEAIDD Objectives
About Us
The Office for the Evaluation and Analytics for Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (OEAIDD) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Hawai‘i. Our mission is to leverage data and analytics to enhance the quality of life and service outcomes for these individuals while fostering informed decision-making and system-wide improvements. We believe that data has the power to transform lives by providing actionable insights that lead to better care and greater equity.
At OEAIDD, our vision is a future where data-driven insights empower individuals, families, service providers, and policymakers to achieve meaningful, person-centered outcomes. By aligning analytics with the lived experiences of our community, we strive to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to live their best life. Our work prioritizes accessibility, inclusivity, and innovation, ensuring that our efforts lead to tangible benefits for all stakeholders.
Our Objectives
OEAIDD focuses on several core objectives to drive meaningful change. We aim to improve data integration and utilization by developing user-friendly systems that consolidate information from diverse sources. By using advanced analytics and predictive models, we identify risks and provide timely interventions to those who need them most. This enables us to address critical questions, such as whether services are meeting participant needs and what factors lead to better outcomes.
Improving care and outcomes is central to our mission. We monitor participant outcomes over time to inform service enhancements and implement sustainable changes that improve accessibility and effectiveness. By measuring trends and identifying areas of need, we help service providers adapt to evolving demands and deliver impactful solutions.
Stakeholder engagement is another cornerstone of our work. We collaborate with participants, families, providers, and policymakers to ensure our initiatives align with community needs. Through accessible dashboards and tools, we empower stakeholders to make informed decisions and advocate for themselves or their loved ones. Our approach emphasizes shared ownership of data and transparency, fostering trust and collaboration across all levels.
What We Do
OEAIDD transforms raw data into actionable insights that address some of the most pressing challenges facing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For instance, we analyze whether services are effectively meeting participant needs, identify predictors of positive outcomes, and explore ways to reduce adverse events. By applying advanced analytics and statistical models, we create a comprehensive picture of the current landscape and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
We are also deeply committed to systems innovation. Our team develops cutting-edge tools, dashboards, and frameworks that make data more accessible to care coordinators, families, and service providers. These systems are designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, enabling stakeholders to use data effectively without requiring technical expertise. This accessibility ensures that everyone, from policymakers to participants, can benefit from the insights we generate.
In collaboration with state agencies, researchers, and community partners, OEAIDD conducts interdisciplinary research to address systemic challenges. Our studies inform policies and practices that lead to tangible improvements in service quality and participant outcomes. By publishing our findings and engaging with the broader research community, we contribute to a global understanding of best practices in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Current Projects
One of our flagship initiatives focuses on enhancing adverse event management. Through predictive models and machine learning, we identify under-reported incidents and provide recommendations for mitigating future risks. This project aims to improve both the safety and quality of care for participants, ensuring that no adverse event goes unnoticed or unaddressed.
Another major undertaking is the creation of an integrated data system that consolidates information from Medicaid, Medicare, and other sources. By bringing together these diverse datasets, we enable holistic analysis and uncover insights that would otherwise remain hidden. This comprehensive approach helps us identify trends, assess the effectiveness of services, and guide strategic planning for the future.
Get Involved
OEAIDD invites researchers, families, participants, and policymakers to join us in our mission. For researchers, we offer opportunities to collaborate on groundbreaking projects that advance analytics and service delivery for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Families and participants can contribute their lived experiences through advisory groups, shaping future initiatives and ensuring our work reflects the community's needs. Policymakers can leverage our insights to advocate for impactful legislation and allocate resources effectively.
Together, we can create a more equitable, data-informed future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Join us in making a difference for Hawai‘i’s intellectual and developmental disabilities community.
