At the Office of Evaluation and Analytics for Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (OEAIDD), we leverage data and analytics to support the work of DDD, advocates, agencies, and other researchers striving to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities–as well as the lives of families, caregivers, staff, and the community–through data-driven service improvements and policy change.
Vision and Values
OEAIDD is dedicated to using research to improve the system of care for and the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and caregivers in Hawai‘i.
Our primary aims are:
We aim to be known for turning research into real-world help for people with disabilities, their families, and caregivers. By supporting evidence-based policy implementation and tracking meaningful outcomes, we ensure our work leads to lasting impact. We measure success through data-driven insights, community feedback, and tangible improvements in services and quality of life.
We use data to improve support for people with disabilities. This helps organizations and advocates predict the needs of their population and offer more personal help and targeted interventions.
Everyone, including people with disabilities and their families, helps make decisions. We empower all stakeholders and leaders in using data to make informed decisions that benefit people with disabilities.
We are committed to sharing our findings openly with decision-makers, researchers, advocates, and the broader community in Hawaii and beyond. We aim to communicate our research in an accessible and inclusive manner, ensuring that stakeholders—including non-researchers, people with disabilities, and their families—can engage meaningfully with our work. Our approach prioritizes transparency, making both our research process and findings understandable and useful to all.
OEAIDD transforms raw data into actionable insights that address some of the most pressing challenges facing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For instance, we analyze whether services are effectively meeting participant needs, identify predictors of positive outcomes, and explore ways to reduce adverse events. By applying advanced analytics and statistical models, we create a comprehensive picture of the current landscape and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
We are also deeply committed to systems innovation. Our team develops cutting-edge tools, dashboards, and frameworks that make data more accessible to care coordinators, families, and service providers. These systems are designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, enabling stakeholders to use data effectively without requiring technical expertise. This accessibility ensures that everyone, from policymakers to participants, can benefit from the insights we generate.
In collaboration with state agencies, researchers, and community partners, OEAIDD conducts interdisciplinary research to address systemic challenges. Our studies inform policies and practices that lead to tangible improvements in service quality and participant outcomes. By publishing our findings and engaging with the broader research community, we contribute to a global understanding of best practices in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
One of our flagship initiatives focuses on enhancing adverse event management. Through predictive models and machine learning, we identify under-reported incidents and provide recommendations for mitigating future risks. This project aims to improve both the safety and quality of care for participants, ensuring that no adverse event goes unnoticed or unaddressed.
Another major undertaking is the creation of an integrated data system that consolidates information from Medicaid, Medicare, and other sources. By bringing together these diverse datasets, we enable holistic analysis and uncover insights that would otherwise remain hidden. This comprehensive approach helps us identify trends, assess the effectiveness of services, and guide strategic planning for the future.
OEAIDD invites researchers, families, participants, and policymakers to join us in our mission. For researchers, we offer opportunities to collaborate on groundbreaking projects that advance analytics and service delivery for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Families and participants can contribute their lived experiences through advisory groups, shaping future initiatives and ensuring our work reflects the community's needs. Policymakers can leverage our insights to advocate for impactful legislation and allocate resources effectively.
Together, we can create a more equitable, data-informed future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Join us in making a difference for Hawai‘i’s intellectual and developmental disabilities community.
